Christian Persecution – Mexico

One of the things I want to make sure I address in this blog is what is happening to our Christian brothers and sisters around the world.  It seems more and more we hear, Christians are being persecuted at an alarming rate.  This is something we are not surprised to hear if you remember Jesus words in chapter 15 of the gospel of John,  “If the world hates you, keep in mind that the it hated me first…If they persecute me, they will persecute you also.”  In another passage in the gospel of Matthew chapter 24 Jesus says, “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.  Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved…”  I think of the many brothers and sisters in Christ who have died because they have put their faith in Jesus, do you think they regret it?  Imagine the insistence where they die and the next moment they are before the throne of God and here the words ” Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Well here is another articles from the Voice of the Martyrs.

Christian Persecution – Mexico

On August 23, three Christians in Chiapas, Mexico, were brutally killed by their neighbor after he blamed them for his daughter’s stomach ailment. Antonio Gomez blamed his Christian neighbor, Pedro Gomez Diaz and his family, for his 11-year-old daughter’s stomach ailment and accused the Christian family of practicing witchcraft, Compass Direct News reported.

Gomez and seven of his friends entered the Christian family’s home and attacked them with machetes. Pedro, his wife, Marcela, and their oldest son, Rene, were hacked to death. Six of the other Diaz children were seriously wounded. At last report, the eight men involved in the attack were being held in a jail, Compass Direct News added.

The Voice of the Martyrs actively supports persecuted Christians in Chiapas, Mexico, with literature and other resources following incidents of persecution. VOM encourages you to pray for their protection and courage during challenging times. Pray for the surviving Diaz family as they mourn their parents and oldest sibling. Ask God to give them comfort in knowing that Christ is victorious over death.

Changing Gears!!!!

I am confused why I started this blog.  It seems my thoughts have been all over the place.  If you have read my blog at all, I tend to wander to different topics.

First off, this NFL season is horrible.  With Tom Brady out, I have no desire to root for the New England Patriots.  I thought with Brady out, now Peyton Manning and the Colts have a shot at another Super Bowl.  What is wrong with the Colts?  The only joy I have in regards to football is the fact that the Chargers are only 1-2.

As for the kids, we have two very independent children on our hands.  I can’t believe how fast time is going by with these two kids.  My boy will start kindergarten next year and my princess has a mind of her own.  Anytime I ask her to do something she will say “I don’t want to.”  Anytime I see her up to no good, she will say “Go away.”  This worries me because she is only two.  We are truly blessed on how well they both get along and it is great to see how much they both love each other.

i truely miss going out with my wife.  Ever since her parents moved back to Lithuania, we just don’t get out as much, just the two of us.  Don’t get me wrong, I love the time we spend with the kids but I so miss our time too.

So what is this whole changing gears mean?  I think for the rest of year, I want to change the focus of my blog.  I want to go back to the basics.  I think I have been trying to present entries to please the reader or to create more traffic to the blog. So what will I blog about and what direction will I take?  Who knows?  I just think I need to change it up a little.

Redhook Brewery, Woodinville, Washington

Many people may over look the Redhook Brewery when the goto Seattle, Washington for two reasons.

First, Pyramid Brewery is located in Seattle next to Quest Field and Safeco Field.  It is actually across the street from where the Seahawks and Mariners play.  I have yet to visit this brewery.  I noticed on my last visit that there was a small  pregame party in the parking lot for Seahawk fans prior to the football game.

The other reason people may overlook the Redhook Brewery is because Woodinville has over 35 wineries.  I have only visited one, Chateau St. Michelle.  It was a fun experience.  I still like the charm of the Redhook Brewery.

Redhook offers a tour of their brewery for a fee of $5.  It is not bad considering you get a 3 oz souvenir glass and get to try a few samples of beer during the tour.  The brewery also has a restaurant and a gift shop.  The gift shop sell everything you can imagine from glasses to shirts and even beer.  Every beer they make is avaliable to purchase.  On my last visit I learned that on Mondays, if you buy a case of beer the second one is half off.  It was too bad I was in Seattle area for only a week and I had visited the brewery on Wednesday.  The regular price for a case of beer is only $24.  That comes out to a $1 a beer and for Redhook that is a great price.

One of my favorite beers, which they only sell in Washington state, is the Blackhook beer.  It is a dark beer but has very smooth taste to it.  I also enjoy there Redhook’s ESB beer.  I have been able to get this beer down here in California.  I have seen the grocery stores begin to carry Redhook’s Long Hammer beer.  It is an Indian Pale Ale.  To be honest, I am not really a fan of it but I like the logo and the name.  The other beer that my wife enjoyed was Redhook’s Blonde Ale.  She liked it so much that we brought a case of that Blonde ale and a case of the Blackhook.

So if you ever in the Seattle area, I would highly recommend stopping by the Redhook Brewery in Woodinville.

Kids are cute

We have recently been playing a match game with my son.

Usually we will play with about 15 matched pairs of tiles…so a total of 30 tiles. Mix up the 30 tiles and then arrange them FACE DOWN in a 6 by 5 grid. Play starts by having one player turn over 2 tiles. If the  picture of the 2 tiles is the same, the player picks up these 2 tiles and turns over 2 more. If the 2 tiles are not the same, the tiles are turned back face down in the same place they were and it is the next player’s turn. The object of the game is to remember where similar tiles are located and to pick up as many pairs as possible. The winner of the game is the one who has the most tiles at the end of the game.

The other night, our four year old son was teaching his two year old sister on how to play the game.  it was so cute to watch them play.  The boy was helping his sister and she did really good with his help.  After they were done, my son counted out  how many pairs he had and how many his sister had.  Of course he won, but then he asked his sister to give him a high five for a good game played.

Moments like this is priceless.  It is interesting to see the habits our kids pick up from us.  After I would finish playing the game, I would always tell my son to give me a high five.  After watching the kids play, my wife and I joined them for another game.

Sunday Football

I hate living in Los Angeles.  Every Sunday, we get the pleasure of watching our local teams.  We will get to watch either the Los Angeles Raiders or the Los Angeles Rams play on television.  Also we get to watch the Los Angeles Chargers.  I forgot none of these teams play in Los Angeles but it seems both CBS and Fox like to show them anyways.

Fox was kind to us, the viewing public, and the afternoon game was between the New Orleans Saints and the Denver Broncos.  The morning game on CBS was the Oakland Raiders against the Buffalo Bills.  Why not just pick the best morning game and air it.  I am enjoying the afternoon game on CBS with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Kansas City Chiefs have only one goal this season, lose.  It is in their best interest to lose so they will  get a good draft pick in draft next year.  I think Kansas City and the Rams are the worst teams in the NFL this year.  i was happy to see that Miami beat the Patriots today.  I am very happy that Buffalo beat the Raiders because I picked Buffalo  to win this weekend for my Last Man Standing.

i like tonight’s game and the Green Bay Packers.  I know everyone likes the Dallas Cowboys to win the Superbowl and to be honest I think they will but they will still lose tonight, go Packers!  A little warning to all you San Diego fans,  the Jets are going to win this Monday night.  Brett Farve’s nickname is Mr Monday night and we will all be talking about it on Tuesday morning.  What ever happened to the Madden curse?

Los Angeles Metrolink victims -Sunday Shock

Friday when I saw the footage on the TV of the train crash in Chatsworth, I avoid as much as possible the coverage. I knew it was a huge tragedy, and I did not want the kids seeing any coverage on the TV. I had recently  used the Metrolink train to goto the Burbank Airport, but I had never imagined an accident to this magnitude could happen.

The front page of the Sunday paper had a list of the names, ages, and where the deceased had lived in the paper.  I scrolled across the names and noticed the name Paul Long.  I looked at his age and the city and I knew this was my old English teacher from Jr High School at Grace Brethren.  I continued reading the article and came across a little paragraph on him.  It seems that his wife and son were also on the train but they survived. I spent two years learning from Mr. Long every aspect of English and Literature but the biggest impact was I met a man who love Jesus Christ and lived it out every day.  The Simi Valley Acorn has an article on Paul Long.

I was sad  that he had died in the train crash but I also knew he had a  passion in his heart for Jesus Christ.  I knew at the moment I was reading the article that he was before the throne of God.  As a Christian, there is a peace knowing that when you die, you will spend an eternity with God.  Not because of anything you do but because of what Jesus did for us when he died on the cross.

Later that evening when we went to church our pastor, Francis, talked about few other victims of the crash who attend our church.  He mentioned the same thing I was thinking earlier.  That those who had passed away, were also at peace now.  At one moment they were in a train, heard the screeching sound of the the trains colliding and the next moment they were before the throne of God.

This was a horrific accident with the loss of many lives but the greater tragedy is those who have rejected Jesus Christ and will spend an eternity in hell.

What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ–the righteousness  that comes from God and is by faith.  Philippians 3:7-10

Chiefs vs Raiders – We have a chance for a win

I am so excited to see that the Chiefs will be playing Oakland this Sunday.  The Chiefs have a shot of winning this one.  Oakland has a great one, two punch with Russell and McFadden but that is it.  The Chiefs will have Huard at quarterback and that means we got a chance.  I predict a Chiefs win, 17 – 14.

I am not sure where all the offense will come from but maybe the defense will keep this game close.  The Chiefs will also play a little harder this weekend since it is the Oakland Raiders.

Just one side note, I accept Indianapolis to roar back this weekend and the New England patriots to beat the NY Jets.
