I noticed the Olympics were going to start at 7:30 PM PST, so I told my kids let’s watch. I live on the West Coast and I knew we were going to get a slight delay, no big deal. This was the first opening ceremonies we were going to watch as a family. I thought it would be cool for the kids since they enjoy playing Mario and Sonic Winter Olympics on the Nintendo Wii.
Well 7:30pm rolls around and as my family and I watched the coverage, we notice no opening ceremonies. I thought, that’s alright, we are going to get some coverage on the luge racer, Nodar Kumaritashvili, who tragically died during a training run. Thirty minutes into NBC’s coverage and there were still no opening ceremonies. That was enough for us so we just turned off the television.
Whose stupid idea was it to tape delay the Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics on the West Coast from 6pm to 9pm? I can understand a slight delay but 3 hours you have to be kidding me. But what should we expect from the network that ask Jay Leno to retire from Late Night then give the Tonight Show to Conan O’Brien but when Jay Leno thinks about coming to Late Night, NBC offers Jay a talk show at 10pm. When Jay’s show fails at 10pm, NBC get the bright idea to move Jay to a 30 minute show from 11:35pm to 12:05 am and move the Tonight Show to 12:05am. But would the Tonight Show, no longer be the Tonight Show after midnight?
NBC and their bright ideas and they wonder why their ratings are in the toilet.
Yeah, the 2016 Olympics will have both golf and rugby as events. I think this is a good idea to add two new events to the Olympic program. Golf is a huge sport worldwide and I think it is about time that the Olympic Committee brough back this sport as an event. As for rugby, I have only watched bits and pieces of this game on television but it would be entertaining as an event in the Olympics. I think the Olympics need to bring back more events to th the Olympic games. I would like them to bring back the Tug of War event. I sure can’t wait for the 2016 Olympic games
To be honest , I am so happy to see that Rio De Janeiro will host the 2016 Summer Olympics. This will be the first time that a city in South America will host an Olympics. This will be an interesting setting for the Olympic games.
To everyone who wanted to see the Olympics held in Chicago, better luck next time. I really thought Chicago had a very good shot at hosting the Olympics. I think if Rio wasn’t in the mix of cities competing to host the Olympics then Chicago would have won. I think this was an opportunity to choose a city that would make history. Choosing Rio to host the Olympics was an easy choice. The other two cities, Madrid and Tokyo, were interesting choices but I was not too excited to see either of them to host the Olympics.
I think if the US wants to land the Olympics then they should have the state of Hawaii host the Olympics. Honestly, I don’t think Hawaii has the infrastructure to handle the Olympics but it would be a great place to attempt to have it. The only other place I would like to see the Olympics held, it would be in Lithuania. There is no way Lithuania could hold an Olympics.
FIBA Europe reports in an article that the Lithuanian girls beat Russia to capture their first U18 European Championship. The final outcome of the game was 63 -57.
Any time Lithuania wins a tournament in basketball, it is time to celebrate. It is even better that it was against Russia. I enjoy the fact that Lithuania continues to dominate at basketball internationally.
I enjoy the fact that the players who play for Lithuania are Lithuanians. I noticed some countries have players who are not natural citizens. They are made citizens so they can play for their national team. For example, on the German Olympic team, Chris Kaman, was made a citizen so he could play for their team during the 2008 Olympics.
Lebron James has guaranteed that the US will capture the gold medal for basketball in the Olympics. This is a bold statement coming from an NBA player who has yet to win an NBA title. This US Olympic Basketball team is a great collaboration of NBA talent. It comes down not to talent as the US learned at the last Olympics in Athens but it comes down to how well they can play international basketball.
I think the US Men’s Olympic basketball team will compete for a medal. Will they get a gold medal, silver medal, or bronze medal? Who knows. I am still standing by Lithuania to win a gold medal. I think it would be great if Lithuania played the USA in the final game to determine who gets the gold and silver medals.
It is official, the US has announced their men’s basketball team for the 2008 Olympics. There are all big names on the list. Unfortunately Kobe Bryant is on it. This list also includes LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Jason Kidd, Tayshaun Prince, Carlos Boozer, Chris Bosh, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Michael Redd and Deron Williams. We will see how well this team can play together. I think they will put their egos aside but their arrogance will lead to a couple of losses.
The key to international basketball is the three point game. I think this team is a good team but it never comes close to the Dream Team. Many of us remember the Dream Team of the 1992 Olympics with Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Scottie Pippen, and the rest.
I believe the US team will struggle but will defenieatly win a medal.
