It was not that long ago that when I went to school we were taught there were nine planets. The nine planets include Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto. My personal favorite is Earth due to it’s oxygen rich atmosphere.
A couple of years ago, a controversy has erupted if Pluto is really a planet due to it’s size and distance from the sun. It has been concluded that Pluto is no longer a planet. There goes the galaxy. In an article I saw on Yahoo today, it stated, “The International Astronomical Union has decided on the term “plutoid” as a name for dwarf planets like Pluto.”
Two points I would like to conclude. First to any students whoever got this answer wrong during science class, it’s time to go find your old science teacher and tell them that you were right and they were wrong. YES!!!!! My second point is if were wrong about Pluto being a planet, then maybe we are wrong about evolution. Too many science text books accept evolution as fact instead of theory. That is why it is easier for me to accept the biblical account of creationism. Basically creationism states that a loving, awesome, holy God created the universe and man in one week.
I’m sorry, but I’m not following. How are the two related? So because Pluto isn’t considered a planet anymore, maybe the earth really is flat after all. Maybe Atlas is holding the earth up. Maybe there’s a dragon in my garage. Etc, etc…
Evolution is accepted as fact because the theory explains the evidence best at this time…that doesn’t mean bits and parts of evolutionary theory can’t change. Take gravitational theory…it’s accepted to be true because it fits the majority of the evidence.
But maybe gravity doesn’t exist either, since Pluto isn’t a planet. Maybe it’s actually the beatings of the angel’s wings that keeps our feet on solid ground.
